Hisense enters ULED TV race with low cost sets

Hisense builds various products that have nothing to do with smartphones, and earlier this week it revealed one more: its range of ULED UHD Cruved TVs, out of all things.

So who cares about a 48-inch TV that will probably only be sold in selected countries? Well, not to worry, starting at R9 999 for the 50″ offering, the K680 UHD range is pretty interesting. For some though, the biggest benefit of Hisense’s ULED technology lies in the price, since the cost of a ULED television could be as much as half that of the same sized OLED television.

The all-metal and plastic body is one of the thinnest I’ve seen, and Hisense even went so far as to redesign the power plug to make it as small as possible, too. Otherwise, it’s like a big old Android phone, without a quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and Android 5 Lollipop. Nonetheless, the UHD ULED TV range will go on sale in SA from mid August with the larger 55” and 65” UHD televisions costing R14 999 and R26 999 respectively, prices which are “considerably more in reach of the average user.”
