Scammers pretending to be calling from Microsoft

Microsoft SA is warning people not to fall for a scam where a cold caller claims to be a representatives of Microsoft, one of its brands or a third party contracted by Microsoft. Then as cold (hearted) as this caller already is they tell the victim they are checking into a computer problem, infection or virus that has been detected by Microsoft.

Apparently a few overly credulous people fell for it, forking over their credit card information to the scammers or get tricked into installing malware onto their PCs with the aim of gathering sensitive data and only realizing they’d been had when they check up on their credit card statements come month end.

Consumers are urged to never authorize remote control over PC to an unknown third party and take down their information and report them to the SAPS on 08600 10111
