Lionel Messi joins WeChat to push it forward

Chinese messaging app, WeChat has step up its efforts to increase its courtship of users to more than 70 Million outside of Asia.

WeChat –  formally launched in South Africa two weeks ago – is a new mobile and social communication tool supporting text, voice, photo and video interaction with a cross-platform compatibility for Android, Blackberry, iOS, Windows Phone and Symbian smartphones. WeChat enables users to chat freely individually or in groups using mobile data or via a WiFi connection.

Now with a twist, WeChat has added football legend Lionel Messi to its glittering user base of artists, musicians, VIPs and Fashion Icons to share their WeChat experiences with fans and followers. Messi will populate his MessiOfficial account with personal videos, voice messages and photos. You can find Messi’s fun video after the jump.

Some features found on WeChat include:

Web WeChat – This allows users to chat with each other using a PC browsers.

Group Chatting – This feature allows users to chat with up to 40 family and friends (also on WeChat) at the same time. Making the chatting experience more fun than ever before.

Official Accounts – This is ideal for brands, celebrities and merchants to build brand activity with their followers.

Moments –  This allows you to share photos, texts, and URL links with trusted friends and contact.

Location Based Features – With the help of ‘shake’ and ‘Look Around’ its now easier for users to find others around them. ‘Shake’ enables users to contact people around the world by simply shaking their devices. While ‘Look Around’ enables users to find like-minded people around them.

WeChat is free to download, install and use. Here users can text each other, swap voice messages, video chat and share pictures and music in a WhatsApp like environment.
