RIM’s (Research In Motion) Messaging service offering now allows users to make voice calls to each other.
Blackbery’s Messaging (BBM) serivice started prompting for updates from its 6.0 version to those of BBM7 which include the new feature on Monday evening.
However, voice calls via BBM do not work using cellular connections but require both the user placing the call and the receiver to be connected via a WiFi network. Downside as most Blackberry and BBM users in emerging markets may not have access to WiFi networks.
BBM7 is available on devices running on Blackberry 6 or higher.
